Definition#

TEMPO (Temporary) is a change group used in TAFs to indicate that weather conditions will temporarily fluctuate from the prevailing forecast, with each occurrence lasting less than one hour and the total duration covering less than half the period.

Why It Matters Operationally#

TEMPO conditions may briefly dip below landing minimums or introduce hazards. Dispatchers must account for TEMPO groups when selecting alternates and calculating fuel.
