Definition#

V-speeds are standard terms used to define specific airspeeds important to the operation of aircraft. Common V-speeds include V1 (takeoff decision speed), Vr (rotation speed), V2 (takeoff safety speed), Vs (stall speed), Vref (reference landing speed), and Vne (never-exceed speed).

Why It Matters Operationally#

V-speeds define the boundaries of safe flight and are calculated for each flight based on weight, temperature, and configuration. They are published in the POH/AFM and set by crews before each departure.
