- Also Known As
- MTOW
- Used By
- Pilots, Dispatchers
Definition#
MTOW (Maximum Takeoff Weight) is the maximum allowable total weight of an aircraft at the start of the takeoff roll, as specified in the type certificate. It accounts for structural limits, engine performance, and certification requirements.
Why It Matters Operationally#
MTOW limits payload and fuel on every flight. Hot-and-high conditions, short runways, or obstacle-rich departure paths may require taking off below MTOW, reducing payload or fuel.
